Vadakhari

The first branch of our new little food shop - ‘Vadakhari’, a partnership venture of Nala was opened on Jan 28th at Samantham Street, Opposite to Ranga Hospital, Mandaveli with the blessings of Dr. Nala Sivakumar, family & friends. Vadakhari’s authentic vegetarian Tambram food is prepared in Nala's Central Kitchen and stands out for its extraordinary taste and quality! We also serve several varieties of Dosa and of course Indian Chinese! Being a super fan of Indian Chinese food, we could not resist serving Vegetarian Chinese in our shop!
Well… what’s Vadakhari got to do in a Tambram Kitchen? Long story short…we decided that our shop should be named after a dish that is as local and as original as Madras. Innovated in the early 19th century by an unknown who lived in Saidapet, Madras, ‘Vadakhari’ is an authentic vegetarian dish that is prepared with boiled and fried Gram dal flavored with Madras masalas. With a history of 100 plus years Vadakhari is now a popular and a favorite dish among the locals in Madras and parts of Tamil Nadu. Nala was first started in Saidapet, Madras and our shop ‘Vadakhari’ is a tribute to our early life in Saidapet and our love for Madras & Madras cuisine! Yes… there was a reason why they said ‘Utalakkadi Giri Giri, Saidapettai Vadakhari’! 😉
